The Backstory: Coral Necklace

I am super proud of myself. I made this necklace a month or so ago and made a promise to myself that I would not wear it before May 10th. And guess what? I kept my promise! I’m not going to lie, it was tough. I ended up hiding it from myself because I was so tempted to wear it before then, writing it off as a trial run. But I made this necklace for a very special event, namely my brother’s wedding, and I was determined to save it for the occasion.

My brother and his wife decided to have a very small, family wedding at a rental house in Santa Barbara, in part because of the beautiful setting. My brother encouraged my mom, sister, and I to look for fun dresses for the wedding, so the pictures of all of us together would be bright and colorful. I was actually with my brother when I bought my dress, and he suggested I make a piece of jewelry to go with it. I remembered this strand of gorgeous coral beads I found in a bead store in Hawaii, and put this necklace together to match my navy and coral dress.

May 10th was an absolutely beautiful day full of joy, sunshine, and sweet time with dear family and friends. I’m so glad I saved this necklace for such a special day because now, every time I wear it, I’ll be reminded of the day for years to come.

I love this necklace so much that I decided to make another one to put up for sale in the shop. Feel free to stop by and check it out!

How about you? Do you have any pieces of jewelry that remind you of a special day or milestone?

P.S. Thanks so much to my lovely sister who helped me out with these photos!
